Over twenty five years ago the Charlotte County Ministerial Association, which included a number of churches in our community started what we now know as Good Samaritans.
A number of volunteers can be credited with keeping this organization alive. Not even Hurricane Charley could slow down its progress. While we lost our resources, we quickly pulled together and remembered we had a calling in the community.
Today, many of these churches continue support with weekly and monthly food donations, as well as with the volunteers required for staffing.
First United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda, Congregational United Church of Christ, Good Shepherd Church, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Inc., and Burnt Store Presbyterian have remained committed to Good Samaritans. |
